Welsh Assembly Government - Consultations

The Welsh Assembly Government [WAG] considers it important to involve the people of Wales in its strategy and policy making work. Consultations are a formal way of seeking the views of people and organisations.
WAG consults people, organisations and communities so that we can all have a say in the decisions that affect us, and we have policies that address our needs and concerns.
The process of consultation:
i. Helps WAG decide between alternative policy proposals.
ii. Helps the National Assembly for Wales to decide on legislation.
iii. Shows WAG where they need to develop their policies, review their plans for legislation or improve their services.
iv. Gives us the chance to tell WAG and the National Assembly for Wales what they need to know to make sensible decisions.
Consultations are carried out through public meetings, written papers, questionnaires and targeted focus groups.
AWEMA undertakes part of the consultation work by:
i. Identifying the most appropriate (for Black and Minority Ethnic communities) documents.
ii. Summarising the documents into a BME context.
iii. Through its network, inviting BME and other organisation representatives to a consultation meeting.
iv. Providing the confirmed delegates with an advanced copy of the summarised (consultation) document.
v. Identifying the most appropriate questions to focus on for the formal response.
vi. Collating the evidence provided by the delegates at the community consultation.
vii. Submitting the written response to the most appropriate Clerk of the WAG Subject Committee.
viii. If asked, agree to provide oral evidence to the subject committee.
AWEMA draws on its Wales-wide network to help with responses to consultation documents. If you wish to be included as someone with knowledge, experience and expertise that we can call upon, please contact Mr. Naz Malik at
