Overview
  • Under the Government of Wales Act 1988, the National Assembly for Wales has a duty to conduct its business with due regard to the principle that there should be equality of opportunity for all people, and to exercise its functions with due regard to the principle that there should be equality of opportunity for all people.
  • The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 places a general and specific duty on public authorities to promote race equality, thus promoting the need to tackle racism, discrimination and inequality.
  • Thus, AWEMA is appropriately placed to continue with the work of furthering the race agenda.
Activities
  • Develop a Good Practice Guide
  • Devise tools which lead to increased participation amongst the minority ethnic communities in Wales
  • Utilise e-based solutions to increase access to public services by the minority ethnic communities of Wales
  • Undertake a mapping exercise of the minority ethnic communities of Wales
  • Develop information & help systems to support minority ethnic communities
  • Identify numbers of minority ethnic applicants for public appointments in Wales, and provide advice on raising the profile of public appointments
